Welcome to the Gender, Race, Oppression, and Wellbeing (GROW) Lab, housed within Bryn Mawr College's Psychology Department! Within an intersectional and liberation psychology framework, we use quantitative and qualitative methods to conduct three primary lines of research:
1) How do forces of discrimination and oppression (e.g., racism, gender roles, gendered racism and sexual racism) affect health outcomes such as disordered eating and substance use?
2) How do sociocultural factors related to race, gender, and other dimensions of identity affect our close and/or intimate relationships (e.g., internalized racism and racialized dating preferences)?
3) How can we use psychological science to empower marginalized communities to thrive on both an individual and systemic level?
